Angered by the delay in government departments regarding pension and retirement benefits, the Allahabad High Court said that the employee’s pension and retirement benefits are not a blessing or favor from the government. This is the legal right of the employee. It is the ultimate responsibility of the government to pay it to the employee on time without any delay. This comment was made by the single bench of Justice Prakash Padia while hearing the petition of Chhaya, wife of a sweeper posted in Kanpur Municipal Corporation.

The petitioner’s husband was a sweeper in the corporation, who was not paid retirement benefits. Angered by this, the employee’s wife had approached the High Court. While hearing the case, the court had summoned a personal affidavit from the Municipal Commissioner Kanpur with complete information. In the affidavit filed by the Municipal Commissioner, without any mention about retirement benefits, it was only said that a letter has been written to LIC Lucknow on 23 March 24 for payment of insurance amount.

Dissatisfied with this information, the court expressed displeasure over the government’s working style in such cases. The court said that many such petitions have been filed in the court, in which a demand has been made to issue orders for payment of retirement benefits. On this, the court said that it is the employee’s right to get pension etc., there is no grace or mercy. It should be paid on time without any delay.
